About Dr. Overland

Dr. Sean Overland is the founder of the Overland Consulting Group, LLC. He has been a jury and litigation consultant since 1996, when he joined the firm of Mattson & Sherrod in Los Angeles. In 2008, he left Los Angeles to establish the Overland Consulting Group in Seattle. During his twelve years as a consultant, Sean has worked on hundreds of cases for dozens of clients, including major corporations in the automobile, pharmaceutical, oil, telecommunications, high tech, accounting, financial, and heavy construction industries.

Sean is the author of The Juror Factor: Race and Gender in America’s Civil Courts (LFB Scholarly Publishing, 2008) which explores juror decision-making and jury behavior in complex civil trials. He has also presented conference papers, delivered lectures, and led Continuing Legal Education seminars on topics including jury selection techniques, the Supreme Court’s rulings on the peremptory challenge, and the future of the civil justice system.

Dr. Overland graduated with Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude honors from Pomona College in Claremont, California. He earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. in Political Science with an emphasis on quantitative methods from the University of California Los Angeles.

Dr. Overland is a member of the American Society of Trial Consultants (ASTC) and currently serves on the ASTC Research Committee.
